Harkness Heights – 1910 Bungalow - Joe and Jan Leone
We purchased this home in October 2007 and recently completed a total renovation. The house was originally the home of a Mason, whose pride was represented by the Masonic symbol carefully crafted into the kitchen linoleum.
Careful to follow craftsmen traditions of using materials that are plentiful and simple, yet functional design, we preserved the original footprint of the house. In addition to capturing a period look and feel, we are set for the next century with a complete update of the mechanical and electrical systems.
The star of the renovation is the kitchen, which features a Wood Cook Stove modernized with a gas cook top, complete with the gleaming nickel details that were originally crafted over 100 years ago. The kitchen countertops are created from wood milled from diseased 100 year-old maple tree in the front yard.
Cabinets were built in place using glass salvaged from the original windows. The period restoration also includes a Cast Iron Sink with drain board and apron, and a 100 year old butcher block.
