About the Society
Collaborating with homeowners and neighborhood groups, Denver’s Old House Society works to protect and preserve old houses and neighborhoods through education and public policy. It is the only nonprofit organization in Colorado that is for old-house owners and those who cherish old houses and neighborhoods. Denver’s Old House Society defines an old house as at least 50-years old. The organization was founded on Colorado Day (August 1) 2008.Our mission is simple: Denver’s Old House Society, Inc. is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, more specifically in conjunction with local people and organizations to educate and protect old houses and neighborhoods through educational and advocacy efforts.
Our neighborhood protection goals include:
- Work to ensure that Blueprint Denver will be implemented in 2009
- Blueprint/zoning workshops will be conducted at each neighborhood workshop and at all fairs
- Demolitions and “In Memoriam” will be published in community papers Reasons for “non-historic designations” will be obtained and published
Our education goals include:
- Hold two annual fairs – one on the east side and one on the west side
- Hold “Saturday Morning Workshops”
- Hold guided walking tour events
- Dinners, with an informal educational presentation. will be held in old houses
- Reference/referral topics available on Web site
